Thanks for making it this far, presumably from the Usenet message or someone's suggestion. There are two main links from this page; a plain text introduction of why I wrote this book and a pdf file with 50 pages (221k) taken from the book including the introduction and part of the later sections which describe in detail, among other things, possible ways to program Conways 'Life' algorithm and computation of the Mandelbrot set.

The book is not `camera ready' yet, there are missing diagram numbers, faults in the diagrams etc. but I hope there is enough to give a good idea of what the book would be like. The publisher who is interested would only give me approximately 1$ per book for a print run of 5-800 copies and this would not even justify doing the amount of work to turn this into something I would be proud to publish. I would also be expected to produce camera ready copy and insure the publisher against any libel etc. in the book . If there is interest I would much prefer to attempt to publish this myself. This would, apart from anything else, give me an opportunity to find out about trading on the web as well as hopefully rewarding my efforts at better than a couple of dollars an hour! Any advice on this area would also be gratefully received. What do you think would be the best way to pay for the book over the internet. Is there a distributor who could help with this?

Thanks again for getting this far. My e-mail is akfor@dircon.co.uk I look forward to your comments.
